Having had a full day off exercise yesterday I do feel physically less drained, and by tomorrow I’m sure I’ll be ready to smash it in the gym again.

My day started with my usual bulletpoof latte, for which I doubled the size to accommodate my long journey. (Ingredients – double coffee, 60ml coconut milk, 20g vanilla whey, ice.) I got into my car, opened my shaker of drink and the whole lot was going in 2 minutes. I couldn’t resist not just downing it. So much for it lasting longer.

Food today was very much a case of relying on the local sandwich shop. They do a wide selection of salad and meats and other sandwich fillings, so I always just go for a salad pot, with some veg and a LOT of meat. A few of these gets me through the main meals but in-between can be a difficult time when temptation leads people astray. I’ve been very strict on this diet, limiting it to meat, veg, eggs and nuts, ultra low carb and low calorie. This renders snacks as an almost impossibility. Nuts appear to be an obvious choice but their massive calorie load is something to be very wary of. Also, some nut varieties (e.g. cashews) carry a high carb load, so the lesson is very much to know what you’re eating. My best advice for snacking is to keep meals high in veg to get full, and save some meat left overs for snacks if you need them.

It’s all too easy to follow the “listen to your body” mantra and believe that if you’re hungry then you should eat. On diets like this, hunger is something that at times you just need to ignore.
