Day 45 – sHIIT

With a busy, travel-filled non-workout day ahead of me I thought it only sensible to start my morning early with abdominal exercises and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on the cross-trainer.

Day: 45 of 77
Date: 25/06/2013
Workout Day: Active Rest
Weight (lb): 160.2 (11.6 lb loss)
Body Fat %: 13.5 (3.3% loss)
Health: Fine 10/10

HIIT is great. Psychologically you feel you’ve done a great workout, despite it only lasting a short amount of time. It really helps with fat loss and you can usually fit it in to your busy schedule without too much bother. But let’s not give it too much praise, as we must remember how it works. In layman’s terms, it completely screws with your body so aggressively that the only way to recover is to compensate with muscle growth, fat burning and hormone upregulation. This is indeed what we want, but especially in the absence of carbs it feels like you have no energy, your bones are filled with lead and you just want to lie down. I don’t find it to be mentally draining, but I do physically, which makes a flight of stairs feel like ascending Everest.

But I am pleased I did do the HIIT. It all helps burn the fat, and hopefully I’ll have recovered for tomorrow’s insane Leg day. Check out tomorrow’s post (Day 46) for a report on what looks to be the hardest I have ever performed.
