Day 40 – Mixing It Up

Whilst I’m currently being ultra-cautious with my training, and focused with my resting, I’m also getting a bit bored taking it “easy”.

Day: 40 of 77
Date: 20/06/2013
Workout Day: Active Rest
Weight (lb): 160.4 (11.4 lb loss)
Body Fat %: 13.6 (3.0% loss)
Health: Fine 10/10

Perversely, rest does take some discipline, and these days are usually the least fun of the whole week. But today I decided to supplement with some extra exercise, and instead of going for the usual cardio and HIIT, opted for some strength focused movements. I performed a number of sets of two reps of traditional bench presses, hitting my PR each time. With extended rest periods between sets, these should shock the muscles a bit more, which all helps in the grand scheme of things. I also performed some handstand push-ups in the same way (but with feet supported at 45 degrees) which effectively is very similar to an incline shoulder press. It’s quite good fun trying some different movements and some different set structures. Variety is great. It keeps you motivated and keeps your muscles guessing, and growing.

Injury and enforced resting limits your choices, but it shouldn’t limit your ability to keep progressing and having fun.
