Today was long, and commenced with my usual early Friday start, fuelled by a big plate of meat and veg. The morning involved me giving a webinar and then getting straight in the car for a client meeting 90 minutes drive away. The meeting went well, and half way through, when I was getting hungry again the client provided a massive buffet…..of sandwiches and crisps. It did look inviting, whilst at the same time particularly lacking in nutrition. I just ignored the food and promised myself something to eat later. Of course I had to give the usual explanation of why I was rejecting their hospitality. It does get tedious repeating the same lines about the plan but I also feel a sense of pride as I’m reminded of my commitment and defeating of temptation.

When I finally returned after spending hours stationary on the motorway, I spent the evening with family, hoping to be offered some “suitable” food. And I hit the jackpot. It was a roast sirloin of beef with broccoli. Sounds dull, but the beef was coated in a chilli rub and crucially was grass-fed and tasted incredible. The fat was the best bit and I loved every mouthful. This allowed me to release my gluttonous side and I got through about 1kg of meat. Admittedly, within an hour I felt like I had swallowed a brick, and subsequently endured the thermic effects of processing a load of meat. But it was so worth it. It tasted great and was full of nutrients. On the subject of nutritious food my local organic butcher has offered me a load of grass-fed beef marrow bones, with which I’d plan to grill them for bone marrow. I love this stuff but it is so massively high in calories that the incredible nutrition that it provides is something I’ll have to forego during this diet. If you do get a chance to try bone marrow, get some good quality bones, grill them and enjoy. It tastes like the beefiest beef fat you could ever imagine. Brilliant stuff. The example below is from the brilliant restaurant Hawksmoor in London.
