Day 19 – Heavy going

Day 19 and some slight apprehension at whether I’d survive today’s legs session.

Day: 19 of 77
Date: 30/05/2013
Workout Day: 16
Weight (lb): 164.4 (7.4 lb loss)
Body Fat %: 14.8 (1.8% loss)
Health: A bit tired

Having spent the last two days suffering from fatigue I was hoping that I would wake up this morning feel completely fine. That didn’t happen but I was a lot better than yesterday, despite not sleeping brilliantly, but no worse than any of the last 18 days.

I started the day with a thermogenic tablet, and then eggs and nuts, and followed that with some more thermogenics and beta-alanine before I entered the gym. By the time I got in I actually felt 100%. But as expected the legs workout is a killer, especially on the endurance side, and once again it was the 20 reps of squats that hit me hardest. By the time I get to ten I feel empty. And from there on everything is just hard work. It’s just a case of grinding it out but making sure you’re focusing properly and not just going through the motions. Every bit of diet and training needs to count so it’s no time to switch off. I actually have a rule that if during a set I lose focus for a split-second and have any doubt if I have just completed the seventh or sixth rep, I will do it again, even though I’m 99% certain I had already done the seventh one. It’s my self beasting for losing focus. I’ll never get to the end of a set and doubt whether I did the required amount.

Since the workout I’ve been pretty shattered, but no more than to be expected after a heavy legs day. And as I write this evening I’m feeling fine. I’ve also just spent an hour watching a fly-on-the-wall documentary about the British bakery chain Greggs which served only to rekindle my desire for a tray of doughnuts. But as I said to my wife, I’m not tempted as I don’t have an option. There is no circumstance where I’ll cheat on my diet or even slip up. It’s 100% or nothing and that’s how it will stay to the end.
