Day 75 – Mr Potato Head

I thought carbs were supposed to be fun???

Today is the first of the two carb loading days. I’m meant to have 500g of carbs per day, which according to the programme should be lowish GI. But with a day full of carbs I was focused on not gaining fat, so I ensured they were all consumed after midday, which should help a little. My morning consisted of some whey and coconut milk, but the PM was a very different story. 6 sweet potatoes (1kg), a bag of wheat free gnocchi, a pot of tomato sauce, a tin of tuna and a bowl of oats.

Of all of this food, I was surprised that it was the gnocchi that was the heaviest going. With it being white potato it’s pretty dull, even with the tomato sauce, and it felt like a LOT of food.

The sweet potatoes on the other hand were great! I roasted them plain in a tray in the oven for 90 minutes. I then let them rest for a few hours under some cling film, and then grazed on them throughout the day. Surprisingly, luke warm sweet potatoes (orange variety) are amazing. Just pick one up and eat it like you would an apple. It doesn’t need any oil, butter or flavouring at all. I was very surprised. I can highly recommend cooking them like this, and just eating them at room temperature at your leisure.

By the end of the day I was properly full. Today was a very functional piece of eating. Carbs are usually seen as the fun food, but today I ate the non-fun variety. I just pray that I haven’t turned into a fatty by the morning!!
